Charles Reid Brown

(Western District and Archdiocese of Glasgow) Born in Airdrie, 23rd July 1847; left, due to tuberculosis, 30th May 1868, but later went to English College, Bruges, and ordained a priest by Archbishop Eyre in St. Andrew’s, Glasgow, 30th November 1873; retired from mission, 1916, and died in Dublin, 21st September 1921.

Parish records show Charles Reid Brown was the son of William Brown and Jannet Williamson. His date of birth is recorded as 13th July 1847, and his date of baptism as 25th July 1847 in St Margaret's, Airdrie.

The Rev. Charles Reid Brown was born at Airdrie on the 13th July, 1847; entered Blairs College on the 21st October, 1862; was sent to the Scots College, Valladolid, in September, 1866; left it in ill-health on the 31st May, 1868; and entered the English Seminary at Bruges on the 9th December, 1869. He received the Tonsure on the 23rd December, 1871, and Minor Orders on the 25th May, 1872, from Mgr. Faict; and was ordained Sub-Deacon on the 21st December, 1872, and Deacon on the 7th June, 1873, by the same Prelate. Having returned to Scotland, he was ordained Priest on the 30th November, 1873, by Archbishop Eyre in St. Andrew’s, Glasgow. He was stationed at Airdrie.
